The City Attorney, Mr. Lyn Creswell, is the City’s counsel, and provides legal services to the City.
The City Attorney offers advice to City employees and officials in the performance of their duties. Additionally, he supervises the prosecution of misdemeanors committed within the City.
Mr. Creswell is a retired Colonel with the United States Marine Corps, with 27 years of distinguished service and three time recipient of the Legion of Merit.
Mr. Creswell is an Honor Graduate (valedictorian) of the Naval War College where he earned a Master of Science in International Relations and Affairs and was awarded the Stephen B. Luce Award. He earned his Doctor of Juridical Science in Public Policy Analysis and Master of Laws and Land Use Law from The George Washington University Law School; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the College of Law at the University of Utah; and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Brigham Young University. Mr. Creswell was a Congressional Fellow of the American Political Science Association.
He was two times President of the Utah Municipal Attorney’s Association and served in other associations such as the Utah City Managers Association and the Utah League of Cities and Towns.
Mr. Creswell is the prior Senior City Attorney and Chief Administrative Officer for the Salt Lake City Corporation (1998-2010)
